Patrick Muldoon’s Death Resurfaces His ‘Hot Girl’ Romance With a ’90s Icon
The news of Patrick Muldoon’s death at the age of 57 from a heart attack on April 19 shocked fans, but it also reminded them of his sweet romance — and eventual friendship — with a ’90s icon.
Muldoon and Denise Richards were a hot red-carpet couple in Hollywood after starring together in Starship Troopers in 1998. While their on-again, off-again relationship of “almost five years” didn’t last, Richards still spoke fondly about their later-in-life friendship that was rekindled after she divorced Charlie Sheen in 2006.
Bravo TV viewers know all about Muldoon because Richards often gushed about him during her run on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. “I’ve known Patrick Muldoon since I was 19 years old,” Richards said of their “deep friendship” in a 2019 episode of the reality show, per Us Weekly. “We call each other ‘schweet babe’ because we had nicknames on Starship Troopers for everyone.”
Her romance with Sheen complicated things for their friendship, and Richards didn’t hold back about that deep loss. “I did not speak to Pat when I was married to Charlie,” Richards said in March 2025 on Bravo TV’s Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. “And it was hard, because I didn’t want to lose him as a friend. But toward the end of the marriage, I talked to him all the time about him.”
Over the years, fans thought there might be a spark of romance in the air. In 2014, Muldoon wrote a sweet message for her birthday. “Happy Birthday to this really hot girl I met in acting class a while back,” he wrote on X. “LOVE U!! XOXOXO.” In 2015, Richards and Muldoon starred in the 2015 movie A Christmas Reunion.
Even Richards’ eldest daughter with Sheen, Sami, 22, believed that Muldoon “might still have feelings for [her] mom.” It was an opinion she voiced during their run on the 55-year-old actress’ reality show, but the former Days of Our Lives star denied longing for his ex-girlfriend.
In October 2025, Muldoon cleared up the situation in an October 2025 episode of Tori Spelling’s misSPELLING podcast with guest host Elise Donovan, noting he had been in a relationship with producer Miriam Rothbart since 2023.
“The thing about Denise and I is everybody thinks we met on Starship Troopers, but we met in acting class when she was 19, and I was 21,” said Muldoon. “We both don’t come from entertainment families, and our families got to know each other over the years and kind of checked in with each other on navigating the crazy stuff that we all go through.”
Richards has not made a statement about Muldoon’s passing. Their last onscreen project together was starring in the romantic music video for Muldoon’s song, “Gray Again,” in March 2025.
