Beddau v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview
Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a local derby away against neighbours Beddau RFC. The Admiral Premiership match between the two clubs takes place this Saturday 25th April at Mount Pleasant Park and kicks off at 2:30pm.
Ponty have played two previous matches against Beddau at Mount Pleasant Park, the last of which took place on 16th August 2008 in a pre-season friendly – the Valley Commandos won by 58 points to 11 that afternoon.
The last time the two clubs locked horns was on Boxing Day earlier this season, and what a match it was! In front of a packed out Sardis Road, tries from Dale Stuckey, two from Joe Davies and touchdowns for Joe Miles and Jordan Coxley sent Pontypridd on their way to a 36-33 win.
Ponty returned to action on Saturday after a ‘week off,’ making another short trip, this time to Ystrad Rhondda. The team were determined not to slip up following defeat away at Ystrad last season, and they didn’t. An efficient performance away from home saw Pontypridd bring five league points back to Sardis Road following a 33-21 win.
It’s as you were in the title race as Beddau and Merthyr also won with bonus-points over the weekend, so there is still just two points separating the three clubs in the top three positions, albeit they have all played a different number of matches.
This Saturday’s match has a real blockbuster feel to it and it’s testament to both Pontypridd and Beddau that they’re still in the title race. It’s almost unfathomable to think that both Ponty and Beddau could finish the season on 100+ league points and it’ll still not be enough to clinch the Premiership crown. One thing that is almost certain is that whoever is on the losing side come 4:15pm this Saturday afternoon bows out of the title race – the stakes could not be any higher!
SARDIS ROAD CLUBHOUSE OPEN –
After the match the Clubhouse at Sardis Road will be open from 5:00pm onwards so that supporters can enjoy some post-derby refreshments.
IMPORTANT TICKET INFORMATION –
All supporters need to be aware that Saturday’s match is all-ticket, and it’s very likely that no tickets will be available on the day of the game. Many Ponty supporters have purchased tickets through the Supporters Club, however, at the time of publishing this article Beddau RFC still have a limited amount of tickets available.
Tickets are priced at £12 full and £8 concession and as things stand supporters are able purchase them from the following locations – Beddau RFC, Amber’s Cafe and The Cokework’s Bar – once they’re gone they’re gone and the match will officially be a sell-out.
GROUND POSTCODE –
Please note that again due to the close proximity of the two clubs, the Ponty Supporters Club are not running a bus to Beddau this week. The postcode for Mount Pleasant Park is CF38 2AA.
