Barnes: ‘They just got whatever they wanted’
It’s refreshing when NBA players share how they really feel.
When asked why the Raptors didn’t play as hard as they could have, Scottie attempted to give an elaborate answer.
He tripped over his words, put his hand on his hair, and let out a Phewwww.
“I don’t know to be honest. They just got whatever they wanted,” he said, shrugging his shoulders.
Minus the 3-point shooting, all that could have gone wrong did last game.
Immanuel Quickley was dearly missed, and his return remains uncertain. The Shead – Barrett – Ingram – Barnes – Poeltl starting line-up had a -30.8 rating in eight minutes.
The Shead – Walter – Ingram – Barrett – Poeltl lineup had a 87.5 net-rating in three minutes, and whether Darko Rajakovic uses the Shead – Barrett – Ingram – Barnes – Murray-Boyles line-up, which ran for two minutes last game, remains to be seen. This lineup had a 7.1 net rating in 34 minutes during the regular season.
Aside from lineup changes, “We gotta make a lot of different adjustments,” said Barnes. “We’ll make adjustments on both ends of the floor. Obviously, finding ways of getting BI more involved, and being able to attack the paint more. Obviously, getting that transition game as a factor. Defensively, just do more.”
In yesterday’s interview, Ingram re-assured the media that he’s been top-locked before, and that he was confident about getting the ball and increasing his shot atempts.
Jamal Shead said his team needs to remain resilient when the ball doesn’t get into Ingram on the first action, and instead believe that they will find him on the second or third action.
The Cavs will also be making adjustments, but the Raptors will need to make significant defensive adjustments if they hope to attack them in transition.
