Iran executes two over alleged Israel spying
Iran has executed two individuals convicted of spying for Israel, state media reported, in a move reflecting heightened security tensions.
The Tasnim News Agency said the executions were carried out on Monday after the men were found guilty of cooperating with Israeli intelligence.
According to the report, the accused had received specialised training, including in secure communications, identifying sensitive locations and assembling explosive devices.
Authorities said they were involved in carrying out arson attacks on military and public sites and sent videos of their operations to handlers in exchange for cryptocurrency payments.
Tasnim added that the network had been under surveillance before the arrests were made. Iran has in recent years detained and prosecuted multiple individuals accused of espionage linked to Israel, particularly amid rising regional tensions.
The executions come days after U.S. forces seized an Iranian vessel in a high-profile operation, intercepting and boarding the ship after disabling it in regional waters.
The move, confirmed by Donald Trump, was condemned by Tehran as “armed piracy,” further escalating tensions between the two countries.
In response, Iranian forces reportedly launched drones toward U.S. naval vessels in nearby waters, though no confirmed damage or casualties were reported.
The exchange marked a rare direct escalation at sea and underscored the fragile security environment around key shipping routes.
