James Maddison makes 35-word statement to Tottenham fans after his shock squad return
James Maddison has delivered a heartfelt message to Tottenham supporters following another frustrating result, as the battle for survival continues.
Tottenham Hotspur have to dig deep if they are to pull themselves out of the relegation places with five games left to play.
On Saturday, there was some fighting spirit on display against Brighton and Hove Albion, where Tottenham came close to securing all three points – a victory against the Seagulls would have sent Spurs out of the bottom three, at least until West Ham United kicked a ball on Monday.
But it was not to be for Tottenham, who were forced to settle for a draw after Kevin Danso’s mistake led to Georginio Rutter’s equaliser, which saw the spoils shared.
Tottenham star James Maddison sends message to fans after Brighton draw
While a victory would have been perfect for Tottenham, a draw is not the end of the world with five games left to play.
Spurs now have to secure at least nine points from their final five matches if they are to hit the 40-point mark that could guarantee their safety.
James Maddison, one of the leaders of the group, has now sent a message to Tottenham fans, praising their support during the clash against Brighton, writing on social media:
“Honestly, your support yesterday in the stadium for the team was absolutely mental. Although we are still well and truly in this tough moment, the boys will keep fighting. We appreciate our fan base immensely.”
Maddison was named on the bench against Brighton for the first time this season after spending more than six months out with an ACL injury.
However, he remained an unused substitute in the match, though many Spurs supporters will be hoping he can still play a role in their fight for survival.
Spurs fans continue to back team during relegation battle
Of course, the Tottenham fans have been immense in the last few months as their club continues to fight to stay in the Premier League.
Before the clash against Nottingham Forest, they turned out in their thousands for a pre-match coach meet to galvanise their team and create a fierce atmosphere.
A similar pre-match coach meeting was planned before the home clash against Brighton, but it was scuppered due to De Zerbi’s pre-match preparations.
However, it looks like those pre-match meets could return for the next home league game against Leeds United, as De Zerbi promised to adjust his preparations to accommodate the Spurs fans.
The support from the Lilywhite faithful is guaranteed, but the hope now is for the players to reward those efforts with results on the pitch.
