Stones Women go top of SECWFL Premier
Maidstone United Women have gone top of the SECWFL Premier after an exhilarating 3-2 win against Tonbridge Angels.
This match more than demonstrated why these two sides have occupied first and second place for much of the season.
Four of the five goals came in a breathless first half. The hosts opened the scoring through Aimee Churchill, but just 12 minutes later the ever-reliable Georgia Culpitt levelled the scores.
Ten minutes on, the Angels restored their advantage, with Mollyanne Herbert-Smith scoring from range. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Kelsi Wilkinson ensured the sides went in level at the break.
The eventual winner came just five minutes into the second half, as Chi Madamombe added her name to the scoresheet. Despite only playing on Thursday evening in the Kent Women’s Plate final, the Stones didn’t ease off from the first minute to the last.
The victory takes Maidstone two points clear at the top, with both teams having one game left to play.
Maidstone’s final league fixture is away to Hollands & Blair in a fortnight’s time, while Tonbridge can return to the summit with a win against Long Lane next Sunday.
