Brandon Ingram discontent about low amount of shots in Game 1
The Raptors were battling hard on the road against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening game of a best-of-seven series and headed into halftime trailing by just seven points. Brandon Ingram headed into halftime with 13 points to his name, and after a hot start from the three-point line by Jamal Shead and Scottie Barnes in the first quarter, the offence started to dry up and began relying on their go-to scorer, who has been reliable all season long.
Then the third quarter happened. Toronto was outscored 36 to 22 in what was easily the biggest margin of score in any quarter during the game. Although the Raptors finally won their first quarter of the game in the fourth with a 37 to 29 score, it was too little too late as the Cavaliers were dominating most of the second half and even held a lead of 20+ points at multiple stages of the game.
After a great first half from BI3, something was up. He wasn’t getting the touches that he had been getting in the first half, and it was due to an adjustment made in the locker room during the break. “Well, coach wanted to use me as a screener. Also, he noticed that my man wasn’t coming off me, so he wanted me outside of the action and being a receiver,” said Brandon Ingram about the halftime adjustments.
He finished off with “At the end of the day, me shooting 9 shots is not going to win basketball games,” and Ingram had every right to believe so as he led Toronto to 46 wins while leading the team in scoring for the regular season, where he averaged 21.5 points per game across 77 appearances.
