Maidstone United Women travel to Tonbridge Angels Women this Sunday afternoon.
The penultimate league game of the season sees the Angels, in first place, take on the Stones, who sit second. Just one point separates the two sides, and the outcome of this fixture will play a significant role in determining who lifts the championship trophy in the coming weeks.
This will be the third meeting between the sides this season, with the previous two encounters both hotly contested.
Tori Campbell’s side edged out the league cup semi-final 2-1 in early March before ending the Angels’ unbeaten league run with a thrilling 3-2 victory three weeks ago.
Despite boasting a 100 per cent record against Tonbridge this season, the Stones boss is leaving nothing to chance.
She said: “Just like the home game a few weeks ago, it’s a fixture the girls are really looking forward to.
“We know there’s a lot riding on this game, but we need to treat it like any other. It’s about being confident, but not complacent.
“It’s been a great season so far – we’ve achieved so much – and now we’re just two games away from knowing if we’ve done enough to win the league. I’d love for us to be crowned champions in a couple of weeks; it’s everything we’ve been working towards since our first game in September.
“We’ve had great support here all season. If you’re free tomorrow and can make the trip over to Tonbridge to cheer us on, it would mean the world to us.”
Kick-off at Longmead is at the earlier time of 2.00pm.
The Stones head into this weekend’s game on the back of an impressive 5-0 victory over Long Lane last weekend, with five different goalscorers finding the net.
