FBI Pittsburgh Issues Statement on ‘Onboard Threat’ During New York-Bound Flight
FBI Pittsburgh and federal bomb technicians are currently on the ground at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) investigating a "reported threat" that forced a United Airlines flight to make an emergency diversion on Saturday afternoon.
United Flight 2092, traveling from Chicago O’Hare to New York’s LaGuardia Airport, landed safely in Pittsburgh after the crew alerted authorities to a potential security concern mid-flight.
FBI Bomb Techs and Special Agents on Scene
In an official statement provided to KDKA-TV, FBI Pittsburgh confirmed that a large-scale federal response is underway to clear the aircraft and ensure passenger safety.
"The plane was diverted and landed at Pittsburgh International Airport," the FBI stated. "All passengers and crew safely evacuated the aircraft. FBI Special Agent Bomb Techs and Special Agents are on the ground coordinating with local authorities." The FBI also shared a message to their X account stating, "FBI Pittsburgh is aware of a reported threat onboard a flight headed to New York. All Passengers Deplaned Safely
The Allegheny County Airport Authority confirmed that the Boeing 737 landed without incident and was moved to a secure area of the airfield. Despite the high-stakes nature of the diversion, United Airlines and local officials report that no injuries have occurred.
"The passengers have deplaned safely, and no injuries have been reported," the airport authority noted. Law enforcement remains on the scene as of Saturday afternoon, conducting a thorough investigation of the cabin and cargo hold.
Impact on Pittsburgh International Airport Operations
While the investigation into Flight 2092 is active, the airport authority has indicated that the facility remains open. However, travelers should expect a heavy law enforcement presence near the secure terminal area as federal agents and the Allegheny County Police Bomb Squad complete their security sweep.
United Airlines has not yet confirmed when the 159 passengers will be cleared to continue their journey to New York.
