Lagunitas Announces Return of Iconic Beer for Home Brewers
Ever wanted to make your own name-brand beer without committing to a whole home-brewing kit?
We may have just the thing for you.
Pinter is teaming up with Lagunitas to make both of those possible without breaking the bank, and they are starting out by giving home brewers the opportunity to make one of their discontinued fan favorites.
What is Pinter?
Think of Keurig or Nespresso for beer.
It’s not quite that easy (and definitely not that fast), but the Pinter is an award-winning device conceived by brewers in the United Kingdom in 2020 that allows people to get fresh beer at home without doing more than combining water and ingredients.
It looks like a mini keg (13.9" x 9.2" x 9.5”), weights a little more than five pounds and makes beer without the need to steep grains, boil water or know when to add the hops.
Simply add water and a brew pack to the device then wait for it to do its thing. Typically it will need seven days to brew then three days in the fridge to finish the process.
Then it’s ready to tap and enjoy at your own pace.
Pinter says you will have 12 pints (or the equivalent of 16 standard 12-ounce beers if you’re mathematically challenged) to partake over the next 30 days.
Where does Lagunitas enter the picture?
The makers of Pinter and Lagunitas Brewing Company are teaming up to offer the opportunity to brew one of their out-of-rotation beers: Lil Sumpin Easy. That is an American Pale Ale with citrus and floral pine notes that is 5.7% ABV and has not been available on shelves recently.
However, now people interested in getting into the Pinter game can also get Lil Sumpin Easy on their tastebuds for the great low price of $0.
How can you get that price? Well there is a catch: You must commit to buying a subscription of Pinter packs. Those go for as little as $25.99 and as much as $49.99 depending on the style and brand, but that works out to a pretty solid price per pint or 12-oz. serving compared to getting a fresh beer at your favorite local watering hole.
(Brewing at home also reduces waste since there is no need to ship the beer or packaging to dispose of.)
By itself, a Pinter device goes for $199.00 while the Lagunitas Pinter bundle is $249.00 if you don’t buy a subscription. (That also includes a Lagunitas glass.)
What other beers are available for Pinter?
Pinter offers more than 20 varieties of beers and ciders, and Lagunitas is not the only brand you might have heard of.
They’ve also teamed up with BrewDog and Appalachian Mountain Brewery, among others.
From Appalachian Mountain, that is a tropical IPA while BrewDog offerings include its Punk IPA, Elvis Juice Remixed and Hazy Jane remixed.
As for styles, there is something for everyone: multiple IPAs and lagers, hard seltzer, pale ale, sour ale, Irish cream stout, Belgian wit, imperial stout and classic stout.
And if you are specifically a fan of Lagunitas, there’s more good news: Pinter plans to offer other varieties from the Northern California brewery later this year.
Lil Sumpin Easy became available for Pinter this week.
