Late on Friday, reports began to surface in the media and online about a possible new development in the Nancy Guthrie case. Conjecture suggested that a person of interest had been detained for questioning. Shortly afterward, Fox News Digital reporter Michael Ruiz posted on X stating that Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos replied with a single word when asked about those claims, "Nope."
"Sheriff Nanos’ one-word reply when asked about new reports that another person of interest has been detained in the Nancy Guthrie case: 'Nope.'"

It is important to note that footage of Nanos' denial hasn't currently been made public. As such, there is no way to know how the question the sheriff replied to was asked or framed. Ruiz's post presents the denial as clear, but the full context currently remains unconfirmed.
The 'Bombshell' New Person of Interest Report Explained
Before Ruiz posted his report, Nancy Graceaddressed the circulating claims on her Crime Stories YouTube series. The host started an episode of the show by saying: "Bombshell. To Tucson and the Nancy Guthrie disappearance. Has a guy been detained overnight for questioning."
Grace and her guest David Mack went on discuss the possible implications of the claims that someone had been taken in for questioning. While doing so, they stressed that nothing had been confirmed, including when Mack referred to a "possible suspect" and "possible new information."
The pair revealed the two basic details of the report that Chris Nanos would later refute. The fact that it was being claimed that someone had been taken into custody for questioning was the most important part of the report. Secondarily, it was claimed that they were taken into custody near the same location where an earlier individual was arrested in relation to the case, south of Tucson and California. "We're right back in that same general area as we had been before." That earlier arrest, which is definitely known to have happened, appears to have gone nowhere.
