Erhurman meets UN’s DiCarlo
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman on Saturday met United Nations undersecretary-general for peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo on the sidelines of the Antalya diplomacy forum.
According to Erhurman’s office, the meeting was “productive”, with the pair discussing confidence-building measures devised between Cyprus’ two sides and “the latest situation regarding the Cyprus problem”.
Saturday’s meeting was the first time Erhurman and DiCarlo have met since he took office last October, and comes with UN undersecretary-general for peace operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix set to visit Cyprus on Sunday.
One other detail of note from Saturday’s meeting is that in photographs released of it, the flags of the UN and of the ‘TRNC’ appear intertwined at the table at which Erhurman and DiCarlo were sat.
Typically, the UN flag is only placed beside national flags of UN member states when heads of state meet secretaries-general.
