Police release CCTV of woman in pyjamas ‘filling up and driving off’ amid soaring fuel prices
Police are trying to track down a pyjama-wearing woman after a series of fuel thefts.
They released CCTV of the Audi driver apparently filling up and then ‘driving off without paying’.
North Wales Police said: ‘Officers are investigating a series of thefts from various retailers across the western area of the force.’
The woman is thought to have struck at least two petrol stations – at Garej Ni in Pwllheli and Prysor Service Station in Trawsfynydd – over Easter.
Judith Troughton, owner of Prysor Service Station, said £50 worth of fuel was lost to the ‘awful’ theft.
‘It’s hard enough to make a living without things like this happening,’ she added.
Fuel prices rose for nearly 50 days in a row since the start of the Middle East conflict before falling for the first time this week.
A litre of petrol and diesel remains 25p and 49p respectively more expensive than when the war began on February 28.
Cain Williams, of Garej Ni, at Sarn, said: ‘The woman filled up with around £56 of fuel and then left without paying.
‘We are a small business and really don’t make much on the fuel here so it is a big loss for us.
‘This is so rare here in a rural area like this, I actually don’t remember it ever happening here in the time we have been here.
‘The police are aware but as far as we know no one has been arrested.’
A day later, on April 6, the same woman is believed to have struck Prysor Service Station near Trawsfynydd.
The garage released CCTV of the theft, saying: ‘Had a drive off today. Has been reported to Police. Silver Audi. BE AWARE.’
North Wales Police they are investigating but no arrests have been made.
