New Sustainability Project Manager named as city’s Accelerator City title gains international recognition

Liverpool City Council has appointed Maisie Taylor as Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager within the Council’s Culture team, further establishing the city as a leader in culture‑led climate action.

In her new role, Maisie (pictured above) will support the delivery of sustainability focused projects linked to Liverpool’s Accelerator City programme, working with the Culture team and Sustainability team and partners to help embed environmental responsibility into cultural activity, events and the wider creative sector.

In addition, Maisie will also lead on embedding sustainability into upcoming major sporting events in the Liverpool City. This includes the stage 2 finish of the Tour de France, an inclusive multisport and culture festival and EURO 2028. Maisie’s role will see environmental, social, and economic sustainability objectives embedded into event planning, delivery, and legacy.

Liverpool was named the world’s first “Accelerator City” for climate action under the United Nations’ Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA) programme, recognising the city’s work to trial innovative approaches to reducing carbon emissions across live music, film and television production. The programme positions Liverpool as a testbed for new ideas that can be delivered at scale, embedded locally and shared internationally.

The city’s leadership through the Accelerator City programme has also received international recognition, with Liverpool City Council nominated for a 2026 Music Cities Award in the Music & Climate Action category for its United Nations Accelerator City work.

The Music Cities Awards celebrate projects from around the world that use music and culture to drive positive social, economic and environmental change, with winners to be announced in June at the Music Cities Convention in Hull.

Through the Accelerator City programme, Liverpool has brought together local government, cultural organisations, industry partners and researchers to pilot low carbon approaches to cultural production, demonstrating how major events and screen activity can be delivered more sustainably while supporting a thriving creative economy.

Maisie’s appointment will help build on this momentum, supporting the coordination and delivery of Accelerator City activity within the Culture team and helping to ensure sustainability principles continue to be integrated into cultural planning, programming and partnership working.

The role reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to climate action through culture, and to using Liverpool’s global cultural profile to support practical, inclusive and ambitious responses to the climate emergency.

Maisie joined Liverpool City Council in September 2024 as part of the LGA Impact Graduate Scheme. The Council takes three graduates each year (six at any one time) as part of workforce and succession planning to grow own talent and future leaders.

As part of the scheme graduates undertake three to four placements over two years around the Council whilst completing a CMI level 7 qualification in leadership and management.

Maisie’s placements have been in Public Health and Culture where she has been involved in high profile campaigns delivering impact for the Council, partners and residents.
