“Nancy Has Been Located”: Sheriff’s Department Under Fire Over Misleading Post
It’s approaching three months since Today co-host Savannah Guthrie and her siblings reported their mother, Nancy Guthrie, missing from her suburban Tucson, Arizona home, and the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the federal authorities, unfortunately, have still not been able to locate the 84-year-old woman. In what’s widely been accepted as a kidnapping, law enforcement authorities have reportedly followed several leads and clues in order to track down her whereabouts, but have been unable to locate not only her, but the suspects responsible for her abduction.
Given all of the media attention surrounding the case, there are many people across the country with a vested interest in the Guthrie matriarch’s safe return home. So you can imagine the confusion from users across social media when Pima County reported a missing Nancy was found on the morning of April 17, but it was not Guthrie. Even though it should be celebrated that the law enforcement agency located a missing person, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is catching heat for what some deem as a “misleading post.”
Pima County Sheriff’s Department Causes Nancy Confusion
On April 17, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account and posted a Missing Person Vulnerable Adult flyer for Nancy Radakovich, with the word “located” superimposed on it. Additionally, the caption only read, “Update: Nancy has been located.”
It’s that caption of only “Nancy has been located” which really sparks the confusion here. Again, Nancy Guthrie has been a focal point of media attention in the US for months, and as daughter Savannah even recently begged that the search for her mother continue as she returned to Today, many people assumed the sheriff’s department’s post was about Nancy Guthrie, not Nancy Radakovich. So, as these interested parties examined the actual missing person flyer a little more closely, some felt a bit bamboozled, even if they were happy for Radakovich being found.
