Turkey’s Fidan meets Syrian president ahead of Antalya diplomacy forum
Hakan Fidan met Ahmed al-Sharaa in the Turkish city of Antalya ahead of a major international diplomacy forum, Turkish state media reported.
The meeting took place before the start of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which brings together world leaders, foreign ministers and representatives of international organisations to discuss global and regional challenges.
The forum, hosted by Turkey, is being held under the patronage of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and is scheduled to run from Friday through Sunday.
Officials said the gathering is focused on addressing uncertainty in global politics and exploring diplomatic solutions to ongoing conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
Relations between Turkey and Syria have been complex, shaped by years of conflict, border security concerns and Ankara’s role in northern Syria.
Recent diplomatic contacts signal cautious efforts to manage tensions and explore limited engagement amid shifting regional dynamics.
The forum takes place as conflicts across the region, including tensions involving Iran, Israel and Lebanon, continue to drive international diplomatic efforts.
The Antalya forum is expected to serve as a key venue for diplomacy, with regional leaders seeking to navigate instability and identify pathways toward de-escalation.
