Confirmed Man Utd team news vs Chelsea: Carrick delivers worrying Mainoo update, four stars ruled out

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has delivered a crucial team update ahead of the high-stakes Premier League clash with Chelsea tomorrow.

A daunting trip to Stamford Bridge awaits, with both sides locked in a fierce battle for a top-five finish.

Carrick has revealed that Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez will be unavailable for the clash.

He also revealed that a late fitness call will be made on Kobbie Mainoo, who sat out the defeat to Leeds United.

He said in his pre-match press conference: “Patrick’s not [ready] no. He is going well, he’s rehabbing well, he’s kind of on track, but he’s not with us in terms of training yet.

“But he is back on the pitch, as I have already said, so that’s positive, that he is doing really well.

“Kobbie, [is doing] little bits yeah, we are working towards it. He is done little bits, so there is a decision to be made there.”

There was notably no update on Matthijs de Ligt, who has not featured since late November.

The Dutch defender continues to struggle with persistent back issues and could miss the remainder of the season after repeated setbacks.

A hamstring injury against Arsenal has kept Patrick Dorgu out for more than 10 weeks.

Although he has returned to individual training, he may still require time to regain full match sharpness.

Maguire is set to serve a one-game suspension following an FA misconduct charge.

Martinez picked up a straight red card against Leeds due to violent conduct and will not be available tomorrow.

Carrick will hope that Mainoo can recover in time as his absence was felt last Monday.
