Nancy Guthrie Investigators Share Misleading 'Nancy Has Been Located' Post
Amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is facing backlash over a social media post that read, “Update: Nancy has been located.”
On April 16, the sheriff’s department that is leading the investigation into the disappearance of Today host Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother posted to their X account to share an update about another missing woman named Nancy.
The post was actually referring to Nancy Radakovich, an 82-year-old who was briefly missing in the county. The woman bears a slight resemblance to Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since January 31 in a suspected kidnapping. Alongside the misleading caption, which did not include the last name of the missing woman, the sheriff’s department shared an image with a large “LOCATED” stamped across her picture.

The post earned backlash from commenters who noted that the sheriff’s department should have had the foresight to include the woman’s last name. “Pima County is a joke,” wrote on X user. “Obviously it is great this lady was located but you guys have to be absolutely brain dead to not know people would think this was Nancy Guthrie, they even look alike. No wonder her kidnapper got away with it. HORRIBLE PD!”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, particularly Sheriff Chris Nanos, has faced backlash over their handling of Nancy’s disappearance, even earning Nanos a “no confidence” vote from the department. Nancy has been missing for over two months. No suspects or persons of interest have been named.
On Thursday, April 16, the department issued its first update on the case in over a month, responding to reports that DNA evidence was sent to the FBI for advanced analysis after already undergoing analysis in labs used by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
“PCSD has worked with the FBI since the beginning of the Guthrie investigation,” the statement, posted on X, reads. “This is not new information. The private lab we utilize in Florida continues to share information with the FBI lab & other partner labs across the country. DNA analysis remains ongoing.”
