Pakistan rockets damage health centre in Afghanistan’s Kunar province
The Taliban said a health centre in eastern Afghanistan was heavily damaged after rocket fire from Pakistan, as cross-border tensions escalate.
State-run media reported that at least 10 rockets struck the facility in Kunar province, destroying key sections including the operating room, laboratory and maternity ward, forcing the centre to shut down.
Officials at the facility said medical equipment was destroyed and services suspended, leaving local residents without access to nearby healthcare and forcing them to travel long distances for treatment.
Pakistan has not immediately commented on the latest claim, but has previously said its operations target militant infrastructure and are conducted with precision.
Separately, Pakistani authorities said cross-border rocket fire by Afghan Taliban killed at least three people on its side of the border, underscoring the escalation of the ongoing clashes.
Tensions between Pakistan and Taliban authorities have sharply escalated in recent months, with both sides exchanging fire along the border and accusing each other of targeting civilian areas.
Islamabad says militant groups operating from Afghanistan territory threaten its security, while Taliban officials deny allowing such activity and accuse Pakistan of violating Afghanistan sovereignty.
The escalation comes as China has sought to mediate between the two sides, hosting talks aimed at easing tensions and stabilizing the border region.
Diplomatic efforts have so far struggled to contain the conflict, with sporadic clashes continuing despite calls for restraint. The latest incident highlights growing risks of further escalation, as military exchanges and competing claims continue to strain already fragile relations between Pakistan and Taliban authorities.
