Beloved '80s Television Star Hospitalized in Los Angeles
Christina Applegate's health has sent her to the hospital, where she has been since March. Her exact condition is not clear.
That's according to a new report from TMZ. The Married With Children icon "is currently hospitalized in Los Angeles," TMZ reported on April 16. Sources told the entertainment site that Applegate "was admitted in late March, though the exact reason for her stay remains unclear." Although the reason for her hospitalization is not clear, Applegate has spoken candidly about her battle with multiple sclerosis.
"Multiple sclerosis is a disease that causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. Multiple sclerosis can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms. It's also known as MS," the Mayo Clinic explains on its website. Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021.
There is no cure for MS, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Applegate's condition was not immediately clear. She has multiple sclerosis. TMZ received a statement from Applegate's representative, but it was cryptic.
"I have no comment whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She's had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast," the statement read.
Applegate has opened up about her condition in the past. She described how difficult the diagnosis was for her daughter. "We got into a big thing the other day — and sorry Sadie, but it has to be said — she said, ‘I miss who you were before you got sick,'” Applegate recalled on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast.
According to the Mayo Clinic, "In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin. This interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage of the nerve fibers."
What are the symptoms? "Symptoms of MS depend on the person, the location of damage in the nervous system and how bad the damage is to the nerve fibers. Some people lose the ability to walk on their own or move at all. Others may have long periods between attacks without any new symptoms, called remission. The course of the disease varies depending on the type of MS," the Mayo Clinic wrote.
Christina Applegate Called Her Daughter's Reaction to Her MS a 'Knife to the Heart'
Applegate grew emotional on the podcast when discussing her diagnosis. "That is just like a knife to the heart because I miss who I was before I got sick too, very much so, every day of my life. It’s such a loss,” Applegate added of her daughter's comments.
That article, which came in July, indicated that Applegate's daughter is a teen. “She’s the reason I’m still here and trying,” the actress told the podcasters.
Applegate posted a string of posts to her Instagram page in March 2026, but she hasn't posted since.
