European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026 medals revealed with 100 days to go
Organisers of the European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026 marked 100 days to go (D-100) by unveiling the medals for which athletes will be striving this summer.
European Aquatics was represented at the press conference in Saint-Denis by its First Vice President, Croatia’s Josip Varvodic.
“I really like the medals and also the logo of the competition and I’m really impressed with how they have created these,” he told European Aquatics.
“We should be very excited about these European Championships, they (FFN / Organising Committee and partners) are putting in a lot of effort after the Paris Olympics and we have high expectations because of that work.
“I’m confident that it will be a magnificent event.”
Sweden’s triple Olympic champion Sarah Sjostrom was among the athletes present along with home talents Romane Lunel, who competed in artistic swimming at the Paris 2024 Games, event ambassador Laure Manaudou, who won gold, silver and bronze at the Athens 2004 Games, and event ambassador Camille Lacourt, five times world champion and five times European champion.
Officials present other than Vukovic and Gilles Sezionale, President of the French Swimming Federation (FFN) included Julien Charles, Prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis, and Stephane Troussel, President of the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis.
Sjostrom told European Aquatics: “I have great memories of Paris. I had big expectations in the Paris 2024 50m freestyle but I didn’t expect to win the 100m as well so it was a real dream come true.
“Obviously life has changed a lot since then, I became a mother seven months ago and I just did my comeback a few days ago in Stockholm and once again surprised myself with the results.
“I didn’t think I’d already be back to 24.3 seven months post-partum and now I’m excited to go to the European Championships this summer.
“It’s 18 years since my first European Championships, so I’ll be happy to do it again in Paris.”
Lunel commented: “I’m really excited about the European Championships and seeing the medals is really motivating as we really want to take one this summer!
Seeing them today will help keep us train really hard in the coming months.
“It’s really important to have another major event coming back to the city because the last time in Paris (2024 Olympic Games) I have lots of good memories.
“I’m really happy whenever I get to come back to this pool and really interested to see what will happen performance-wise this summer.”
Lacourt added: “It’s a very nice, original medal and I think that with Leon (Marchand) we have great ambassadors for the sport in France.
“Two years on from the Olympics is a great time to have the European Championships here and I hope the French team will be very good.”
Earlier, Varvodic had spoken of his “great pride” at being present for the D-100 activities, paying tribute to the FFN President.
“Since January 24, 2024, when European Aquatics confirmed France as host, the FFN has been the driving force behind this ambitious project, demonstrating commitment to excellence.
The European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026 is not just a sport event; it is the result of a historic collaboration between European Aquatics and the FFN. Together, we have turned ambition into action, ensuring that this edition will set new standards for future championships.
“As the undisputed highlight of the European aquatics calendar, the Paris 2026 Championships will be the sport event of the Olympic cycle. It is a celebration of our sport’s vitality, unity, and global appeal, bringing together the best athletes from across Europe in a spectacle of skill, passion and determination.
“European Aquatics and the FFN are committed to making the Paris 2026 Championships a model of inclusion. With dedicated events for para swimming and 600 children participating in our learn-to-swim programmes and an inclusive approach to sessions for people with disabilities, we are not just hosting a competition – we are building a legacy of accessibility and opportunity.
“As we count down 100 days to this event, let us remember that this is more than a championship—it is a promise to the future of European aquatics.
“Together, we will make Paris 2026 a triumph for sport, inclusion and sustainability.”
These will be the 38th, and centenary Championships following the inaugural staging in Budapest in 1926.
Paris has hosted the EA Championships on one previous occasion, staging the third edition in 1931.
The European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026 will take place from July 31 to August 16.
