Already planning for next season: Will Man Utd wonderkid be loaned out after injury return?
Manchester United fans have received a worrying update on one of their highly-rated academy stars.
According to BBC Sport, Harry Amass is not expected to play again this season despite closing in on a full recovery from a serious hamstring injury.
Amass initially joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan at the start of the 2025–26 campaign to gain valuable first-team experience.
The young full-back impressed during the first half of the season, earning regular minutes before United recalled him in January with plans for another loan spell.
Interest quickly gathered from multiple clubs, but it was Norwich City that ultimately secured his signature.
The 19-year-old made his only appearance for the Canaries against Coventry City before he suffered a setback.
Although Amass has now resumed individual training, time is not on his side with only four matches remaining in Norwich’s campaign.
As a result, the teenager is not expected to return to action for the Championship side this season.
United are instead prioritising a full recovery, with a clear focus on having him ready for pre-season preparations.
Based on his performances, the Red Devils could send him out on another loan or promote him to the senior set-up.
Amass has already featured seven times for the United first team, having made his debut in April 2024.
There is little doubt over his technical quality as a left-back, but questions remain regarding his physical readiness for top-level competition.
His relatively slight frame could make him a target for opponents in the physically demanding Premier League.
At present, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu are two alternatives for the left-back spot at Old Trafford.
While Shaw has been dependable this season, concerns over his long-term fitness persist with a busier schedule looming.
Amass could yet emerge as a long-term solution, but he will need to prove his credentials during pre-season.
