'Top Gun 3' in the Works with Tom Cruise Set to Return as Maverick

There’s some new Top Gun news…a third film is in the works!

This big announcement was made during Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation. Famed producer Jerry Bruckheimer will also return for Top Gun 3.

And that’s not the only news: star Tom Cruise, who appeared in the first two films in the franchise, will be back for the third movie! He famously plays Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

There was talk of a third movie back in 2024, but Variety is noting that it’s now officially in the works. We’re still awaiting more updates including a timeline for filming and release.

The first film in the franchise was released in 1986. Top Gun: Maverick was released in 2022 and was a huge hit.

Maverick had a star-studded cast that also included Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis and Manny Jacinto.

There’s no word about plot, release date, or other returning cast members at this time, but stay tuned as we learn more!
