Need a hit of energy and a satisfying, fueling snack? You might be tempted to stock up on an easy-to-grab protein bar or meal prep your own protein foods whenever the craving arrives. And while that’s great, those aren’t your only options for a protein-rich food that’s good for your body and delicious on your tongue. Italian chef Giada de Laurentiis just posted about her personal “favorite protein bar” that she’s loved since she was young — and it’s made with just one clean ingredient.
“I’ve been hearing about the protein bar craze for so long now,” de Laurentiis said in a video on Instagram this week, before revealing what she likes to eat. “This is my protein bar,” de Laurentiis added, holding up a huge block of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Yum!
“To be honest, I’ve been eating this since I was a kid,” the Giadzy founder continued, breaking off a piece of the cheese and popping into her mouth. “It’s my favorite kind of snack.” De Laurentiis went on to praise it’s “clean ingredients.” “It’s good, it’s salty, it’s like the perfect little bit of protein.”
She claims that she’s been eating this as an “Italian hack” since childhood instead of any other kind of protein bar. “And I’m telling you, it’s the best one.”
In the caption, de Laurentiis added, “My protein bar has ALWAYS been a hunk of parm!!! It’s the cleanest, yummiest bar on the market ????” Fans couldn’t help but agree with her. One person commented, “The best protein bar you can get. One ingredient, super delicious and my go to protein bar as well! ❤️” Someone else wrote, “I love parm so much ????!!”
“Now that’s a protein bar I can get behind ????,” someone else said.
De Laurentiis sells blocks of parmesan cheese on her website, which have been aged for 24 months. The 6-8-ounce block is made from fresh milk from grass-fed cows in Italy, which is then cooked in copper cauldrons. You can shred it over pasta or pizza, add it your recipes, or just snack on it like de Laurentiis does.
You’ll never go back to boring protein bars again!
