Trader Joe's Paying Customers in Class Action Settlement: Who Is Eligible?
Trader Joe’s is paying out customers following a class action lawsuit, and you might be eligible to get some of the payment.
Plaintiff Brian Keim sued the store, alleging Trader Joe’s willfully violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) by printing point-of-sale receipts for credit and debit card transactions at its stores that displayed the first six and last four digits of the card number making them susceptible to identity theft, which the company denies.

Under FACTA, businesses are prohibited from printing more than the last five digits of a customer’s credit or debit card on receipts, per USA Today.
Trader Joe’s says not all stores printed receipts with the first six and last four digits of the card number, and only a small number of transactions at some stores had that information on the receipts.
An official website has been launched to file a claim as part of the settlement, which you can visit here.
Per the official settlement site, the Court did not decide in favor of Plaintiff or Trader Joe’s. Instead, both sides agreed to this settlement.
“That way, Plaintiff and Trader Joe’s insurer avoid the risk and cost of continued litigation, and the Settlement Class Members will receive compensation,” the site notes.
Per the claims website: “If you made a purchase at a Trader Joe’s store using a credit card or debit card between March 5, 2019 and July 19, 2019, you may be entitled to benefits under a class action settlement.”
The potential payment “will depend on the total number of valid and timely claims submitted by Settlement Class Members, but Plaintiff estimates $102.45.”
If you think you are eligible, you can click here to file your claim. Customers who are not sure whether they are included can visit the site, call the settlement hotline at 1-888-444-7415 or write to the claims administrator.
