Scorpions sting Pride
A magnificent last day show by John Campbell and Kirk McKenzie helped seal a sensational come from-behind victory for Jamaica Scorpions over Barbados Pride yesterday.
The pair of left-handed opening batsmen combined to completely batter the Bajan bowlers all over Chedwin Park to record a win for the ages by seven wickets.
In a record run chase, Jamaica made 326-7 off 61 overs, galloping along at an impressive run rate of 5.3 per over in the fourth innings.
They were set 324 to win as Barbados declared their second innings at 317-7 halfway through the morning session.
Earlier in the match, Barbados made 348 in their first innings and Jamaica replied with 342 as all four innings surpassed the 300-run mark.
The first session of the day was highlighted by Kevin Wickham, who rewrote the history books with an imperious 108 not out – to follow up his career-best 153 in the first innings. It boosted his career stats to 1 340 runs and elevated his average to 40.6 from 34.8 going into the match. He joined former Barbados captains Ryan Hinds (2006) and Kraigg Brathwaite (2015) as scorers of a century in each innings of a first-class regional match.
