Murderer handed life sentence
Escapee and murderer Tyreke Delandre Benskin is too dangerous to be released as he poses a significant risk of committing further violence.
So said Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell as she sentenced him yesterday to life in prison with a starting tariff of 40 years.
Benskin, 24, of 2nd Avenue, Promenade Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, in the No. 4 Supreme Court, to the non-capital murder of Shakeem Holder, 22, also of Promenade Road, on February 2, 2020. He also pleaded guilty to being a prisoner on remand at Dodds for the offence of murder, he escaped on September 21, 2023.
He was represented by Senior Counsel Andrew Pilgrim and attorney Lesley Cargill-Straker, while Director of Public Prosecutions, Alliston Seale, SC, and State Counsel Paul Prescod prosecuted the matter.
