Prophet Bushiri Drags Ex-Errand Boy Peter Sambo to UK Court Over Facebook Posts
Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri has taken his legal battle to the United Kingdom, dragging his former associate Peter Sambo to court over what he describes as defamatory statements posted on Facebook.
In a statement released this week, Bushiri confirmed that his lawyers in the UK have already initiated legal proceedings against Sambo, with the matter now set to be heard before the High Court of Justice.
Bushiri said the case marks the end of what had been a back-and-forth on social media.
“This is no longer a back-and-forth on social media. It is now a legal process, and it will run its full course,” he said.
He claims the statements made by Sambo have caused serious harm to his reputation and family, adding that he is seeking damages of up to £50,000 under UK law.
Bushiri also warned that if any ruling is ignored, enforcement measures available in the UK would be fully pursued.
The self-proclaimed prophet stressed that being outside Malawi does not place anyone beyond the reach of the law.
At the same time, Bushiri revealed that he has instructed his legal team in Malawi to pursue further legal action against Robert Chisambiro and others linked to online platforms accused of publishing defamatory content.
According to Bushiri, the individuals are already on court bail but have continued publishing allegations against him. He said they will now be required to substantiate their claims in court.
He also issued a warning to individuals using anonymous or fake social media accounts, saying they would be identified and held accountable.
“Reputation matters. Actions have consequences,” Bushiri said, insisting that he is prepared to use all legal avenues available both in Malawi and abroad to defend his name.
The case in the UK is expected to proceed in the coming months.
