Trump says seeks quick end to Iran war, sees pressure as key to talks
Donald Trump said he wants the war with Iran to end as soon as possible, while emphasizing continued pressure to push Tehran back to negotiations.
According to TASS, Trump made the remarks during a private dinner with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
He said he believes increasing pressure remains the only effective way to bring Iran back to the negotiating table, reflecting Washington’s current strategy.
Meanwhile, Iran has issued strong warnings over any attempt to restrict its access to the Strait of Hormuz, saying regional security would be at risk if its ports or shipping routes are targeted. Officials have warned that “no port in the Middle East would be safe” if pressure escalates further.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has also warned that foreign military vessels approaching the strait could face “harsh action,” describing such movements as a violation of the fragile ceasefire and signaling readiness for retaliation.
The conflict began on February 28 with a large-scale operation by the United States and Israel, followed by a two-week ceasefire announced on April 7.
A round of talks between the United States and Iran was held on April 11 in Islamabad, but ended without agreement due to major differences.
U.S. officials say another round of negotiations could take place soon, possibly again in Islamabad, as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military tensions.
Iran has not publicly confirmed a timeline for further talks, while both sides remain divided on key issues including nuclear policy and regional security.
Trump’s comments highlight a dual-track approach of pressure and diplomacy, as uncertainty remains over whether renewed talks can lead to a lasting resolution.
