Teddy Sheringham says 22yo "deserves" starting Man Utd role, expects "bigger things" from him
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Benjamin Sesko deserves to be leading the line for the Red Devils.
Sesko signed for United from RB Leipzig last summer, and he had a tricky introduction to English football under manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim was reluctant to start him regularly upfront, but the Slovenian’s fortunes have somewhat changed under Michael Carrick.
Carrick took interim charge after Amorim’s sacking in January. Sesko has since been a regular contributor of goals for the Mancunian giants.
He presently has 10 goals across all competitions for the campaign, and will surely aim to hit the 15-goal mark during the final six matches.
Speaking in an interview with BestBettingSites, Sheringham said that Sesko has done well for the Red Devils after a period of adaptation.
He added that the 22-year-old deserves to lead the line, and he expects ‘bigger and better things’ next term with a pre-season under his belt.
Sheringham said: “Yep. He’s had his little spell of learning what the Premier League is all about and leading the line for Manchester United.
“For a young man to come in and do as well as he has. It took him a little while, but he deserves to be leading the line.
“Come next season, another pre-season under his belt, feeling assured and confident, I expect much bigger and better things from him again.”
Sesko has netted nine goals in his maiden league season with United. Out of those, seven have come since the turn of the year after Amorim’s exit.
He netted twice in the 2-2 draw against Burnley under caretaker Darren Fletcher, but was dropped to the bench once Carrick took temporary charge.
Sesko turned into a super sub with winning goals against Fulham and Everton, while also bagging a dramatic late equaliser at West Ham United.
The striker also scored the winner at Crystal Palace after being picked in the starting XI. He has certainly proved himself and earned his position upfront.
Sesko will be aiming to end the season on a high with more goals to his name.
