'Nightmare for Republicans': CNN forecaster warns GOP's odds of losing Senate keep rising
Republicans are staring down the barrel of a scenario few people thought possible, election forecaster Harry Enten told CNN's Erin Burnett on Wednesday: losing their Senate majority just one cycle after securing it.
Even one of Trump's closest Senate allies, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), admitted as much on the Benny Johnson Show this week, noted Burnett. She played a clip.
"Everything that goes on up here, Benny, is about, oh, we got to get reelected. We got to keep the majority," said Tuberville, who declined to seek a second term in office. "Well, hell, we ain't done anything in the majority ... Why should we keep majority?"
"So, Harry, you heard Tommy Tuberville," said Burnett. "That was a very honest assessment. That is what he thinks he said, what the heck? Hell are we done? And so we don't deserve it. Okay. If he's going to say that openly, how bad is it?"
Enten responded by pulling up the latest betting odds from Kalshi, a gambling platform CNN has a partnership agreement with to advertise on their news segments.
"I mean, it's bad. It's like a nightmare for the Republicans," said Enten. "The Democrats just keep gaining and gaining and gaining when it comes to the Senate odds. And you can see it really well in the Kalshi prediction market. I mean, just take a look at the chance that Democrats win control. You know, at the beginning of the year, it was only about a 1 in 3 shot. But now look at this. Democrats haven't just gained on Republicans. They actually have the majority chance at 54 percent. That's fairly close to a toss-up."
"But the bottom line is this," added Enten. "We all thought that the House was going to go to the Democrats, but the Senate as well? Oh boy, my goodness gracious!"
