Meta, TikTok Officials in Malawi for Key Talks on Content Monetisation
Senior representatives from Meta and TikTok have arrived in Malawi ahead of a high-level engagement with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and local content creators.
The meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Bingu International Convention Centre.
The discussions are expected to centre on content regulation, monetisation frameworks, and online safety.
These are seen as critical pillars for unlocking Malawi’s growing digital content economy and expanding earning opportunities for local creators.
Earlier today, a delegation led by MACRA Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma paid a courtesy call on Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Shadric Namalomba.
During the meeting, Namalomba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive digital economy.
He emphasized that the engagement aligns with Malawi’s broader goal of enabling social media monetisation for its citizens.
While noting Africa’s strong creative potential, he stressed the need for structured support, skills development, and incentives.
These, he said, are essential to help creators fully benefit from global digital platforms.
The visit by Meta and TikTok signals increasing confidence from global tech companies in Malawi’s digital future.
There are expectations that the engagement will pave the way for sustainable income streams for creators and a stronger national digital ecosystem.
