White narcotic officers recorded beating Black man in liquor store
Two white NYPD narcotics officers were captured on video beating a Black man inside a liquor store.
According to footage shared on Instagram, the officers grabbed the man for unknown reasons and began punching him, at one point slamming his head into a shelf of glass bottles.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the incident on Wednesday, "The violence used by NYPD officers in this video is extremely disturbing and unacceptable. Officers should never treat a person this way," adding, "The NYPD is conducting a full investigation into this incident."
A police source told the New York Daily News the man matched the description of someone who allegedly made a drug purchase, though no drugs were found on him when he was arrested. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch acknowledged the incident was "upsetting to view" and confirmed the two officers were placed on modified duty pending investigation.
