Kabul says it has sent more than 500 tonnes of aid to Gaza
The Taliban said it has sent more than 500 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah crossing, including food, clothing, and essential supplies.
The foreign ministry said on April 15 that the aid, transported in 42 trucks, has entered Gaza and is expected to be distributed among around 22,000 Palestinian families facing severe shortages.
Deputy spokesman Zia Ahmad Takal said the assistance, valued at about $500,000, was procured by Taliban representatives in Egypt as part of ongoing humanitarian support efforts.
He also called on international actors to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and emphasized the need for a resolution that respects what he described as the legitimate rights of Palestinians.
The Taliban have previously announced fundraising campaigns to support Gaza, highlighting their efforts to contribute to relief operations amid the ongoing conflict.
The aid shipment comes despite a worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where the United Nations estimates that around 22 million people, nearly half the population require urgent assistance.
Years of economic collapse, international isolation, and restrictions on women’s work have deepened poverty levels, leaving millions struggling with food insecurity, unemployment, and limited access to basic services.
While the aid to Gaza underscores Afghanistan’s outward humanitarian gesture, it also draws attention to the country’s own dire conditions, where millions remain dependent on international support for survival.
