Mike White Promises a 'Wickedly Playful' 'White Lotus' Season 4: Storyline and Cast Revealed
Season 4 of The White Lotus has officially kicked off filming in France, HBO announced on Wednesday.
Along with the first photo from production (above), the network also revealed new details about the plot, A-list cast, and filming locations.
The new info comes after the Mike White series transported viewers to stunning resorts in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand for the show’s first three seasons, winning 16 Emmy Awards and 2 Golden Globes along the way. Both the show and White himself picked up Emmys; Star Jennifer Coolidge also won two for her work as Tanya McQuoid, while Murray Bartlett picked one up for his Season 1 performance as Armond.
Season 4 Story & Setting Confirmed
Per the official announcement, filming has begun on the French Riviera.
According to HBO, the show will film in Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco, and Paris, though they added that “the story will remain along the Côte d'Azur.”
The hotels featured throughout the season include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap, and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes.
The official synopsis also reveals why there’s such a heavy Cannes presence, as the new season will take place during the Cannes Film Festival. The story will follow a new group of White Lotus guests and employees over the span of a week.
White himself opened up about the tone for the new season in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s going to be a fun and funnier White Lotus,’” shared. “Last season was kind of heavy, because it had those spiritual themes. This one is a bit more wickedly playful. It’s a different tone than the other seasons.”
“Season 4 is about fame,” he added. “There are some people who are satisfied with the love of one intimate partner or a family, and then there are some people who need the love of strangers—they need that kind of affirmation.”
Full Cast Confirmed
HBO also confirmed the full cast last for the season—and it’s one star-studded group.
The long list of talent includes Helena Bonham Carter, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
Additional cast member also include Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
