SPIDERS head coach Sean Crighton refused to take anything away from the opposition in his Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Raith Rovers, but conceded two big calls against his side “killed” their chances.
A penalty, awarded to and scored by Lewis Vaughan sent the visitors ahead just minutes before Ricki Lamie was shown a red card by match referee Kevin Clancy in a challenge with Jack Hamilton.
The Spiders boss later said his club planned to appeal the dismissal but insists Queen’s Park are still in a very good position to fulfil their pre-season aim of preserving their William Hill Championship status next season.
Speaking post-match to the press, Sean said: “I think the two calls killed our game and from my point of view I’m very frustrated, but I don’t take anything away from Raith, they were good tonight.
“I don’t think we got our press right in the first period, we changed things and I had to decide that maybe we needed to play on the counter attack a bit.
“I was disappointed with our second goal from our point of view. It’s a poor clearance and we don’t deal with it.
“After that, I thought let’s just try shut up shop because goal difference could play a factor in the run in.”
The Spiders are looking to confirm safety on the team’s trip to Greenock on Saturday, and only need to take something from the game in order to avoid ninth and the relegation play-off.
“We wanted it to be in our hands, and we’re still in a very good position. If we go to Greenock on Saturday and we pick up something, we’ll be safe.
“My objective has always been to make sure that we are in the Championship next year and we’re nearly there.”
