Jan Paul van Hecke reportedly rejected a new contract at Brighton last summer amid Tottenham’s interest, and it has now emerged that the Lilywhites have reignited their pursuit of the 25-year-old.
This is according to Voetbal International, who say that Van Hecke is now in his final weeks at Brighton as he will have just one year left on his deal this summer.
The centre-back, who is having an impressive season at Amex Stadium, set his sights on a strong World Cup and a big summer transfer.
Tottenham are not the only ones interested in Van Hecke, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also circling over the player.
However, the outlet points out that Spurs’ current predicament at the bottom end of the Premier League table may diminish De Zerbi’s chances of reuniting with the Netherlands international this summer.
Van Hecke has made his stance clear to Brighton
Voetbal International say the defender halted negotiations over a new deal last summer, and his stance has not changed since then.
While the Seagulls are eager to offer Van Hecke and have tried to initiate talks several times, the player has set his sights on a move this summer and is keen to take the next step and play at the ‘top level’.
