Lavrov says oil markets key driver of U.S., Israel stance on Iran
Sergei Lavrov said control over global oil markets is a key factor behind what he described as the aggressive stance of the United States and Israel in their conflict with Iran.
Speaking on April 15 during an official visit to China, Lavrov said Washington’s actions are aimed at influencing global energy markets through instability in the Middle East.
He added that both Russia and China possess sufficient economic and energy capacity to avoid dependence on what he called “aggressive adventures” that could undermine global energy systems and economic stability.
Lavrov said influencing oil markets appears to be a strategic objective for the United States, alongside its support for Israel, reflecting broader geopolitical competition over energy resources.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, where energy security and supply routes have become central concerns for global markets and major powers.
Earlier, Donald Trump suggested the possibility of targeting Iran’s oil infrastructure, further raising concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
Lavrov’s comments underscore the strategic importance of energy markets in the Iran conflict, highlighting how geopolitical rivalries continue to shape global economic and security dynamics.
