CySEC chairman urges financial literacy in student lecture
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) recently organised a series of initiatives to promote financial literacy, in the context of the World Investor Week 2025 awareness campaign.
One of these initiatives involved CySEC chairman George Theocharides delivering an online lecture at the Open University of Cyprus.
The lecture formed part of CySEC’s broader awareness campaign, which placed particular emphasis on improving financial knowledge among young people.
During the session, the importance and power of financial literacy was highlighted as a key foundation for informed decision-making in modern financial markets.
The chairman also addressed risks arising from social media and finfluencers, warning about the growing influence of online personalities on investment behaviour.
In addition, the discussion covered sustainable investments and the risks of greenwashing, underlining the need for investors to carefully assess claims related to environmental and social impact.
The lecture further explored crypto-assets and prudent money management, focusing on the volatility and complexity associated with digital assets.
Attention was also given to recognising investment fraud and key investor protection tips, aiming to equip participants with tools to identify and avoid scams.
The initiative reflected CySEC’s continued efforts to strengthen investor awareness, particularly among younger audiences entering financial markets.
The full lecture has been made publicly available online as part of ongoing educational outreach efforts by the regulator.
