Cyprus financial regulator marks 30 year anniversary with landmark conference
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) on Wednesday announced its 30th anniversary celebrations, including a landmark conference scheduled for April 29, at the Hilton hotel in Nicosia.
In its statement, the commission said that president Nikos Christodoulides will deliver the opening address at the anniversary conference.
The event will bring together senior figures from European and global regulatory bodies, including the heads of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
A high-level discussion will take place between ESMA chair Verena Ross and IOSCO chair Jean-Paul Servais, focusing on regulation, new financial products, and the evolution of markets.
Renowned artificial intelligence expert and author Huy Nguyen Trieu will deliver a keynote speech addressing the third wave of artificial intelligence.
This will be followed by a panel discussion on artificial intelligence featuring CONSOB commissioner Carlo Comporti, Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier director general Claude Marx, and Hellenic Capital Market Commission chair Vassiliki Lazarakou.
“Since 1996, CySEC has evolved into a recognised authority in capital markets supervision, investment services regulation, and investor protection,” the commission said.
“Over the past 30 years,” it continued, “it has overseen the significant growth of the Cyprus capital market and the expansion of regulated entities operating in an increasingly complex European and international financial environment.”
“This is a very special milestone for CySEC, giving us the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to continuous improvement and modernisation of the sector,” said CySEC chair George Theocharides.
Theocharides further stated that “this conference brings together European regulators to discuss recent developments and the future of financial markets”.
“Investor protection remains at the heart of our collective efforts, driven by innovation and cooperation,” the CySEC chief added.
The conference will be followed by an honorary ceremony recognising former CySEC chairs who contributed to the organisation’s growth.
To mark the occasion, CySEC has also unveiled a commemorative anniversary logo featuring pearl-like characteristics.
Additional initiatives are expected to follow as part of the broader anniversary celebrations, the announcement concluded.
