Young Cypriot pianist in Paphos concert
The municipality of Paphos has launched a programme of thematic cultural events, bringing artful evenings to the city. As part of its Concert Series, it presents the Classical Masterpieces concert with distinguished 18-year-old Cypriot pianist Anna Avraamidou.
Considered one of the most promising young musicians of Cyprus, Avraamidou will be joined by the talented flutist Savvas Christodoulou on the stage of Markideio Municipal Theatre tonight at 7pm.
“Anna Avraamidou has already established an impressive presence, with international distinctions across Europe and the United States and appearances on important concert stages. Since the age of 14, she has been studying at the Purcell School for Young Musicians, and she has been awarded a full tuition scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she will begin her studies this coming September,” organisers say.
“Her achievements include the Grand Prix at the International Franz Liszt Competition in Weimar, distinction at the Cooper International Competition 2025 in the United States, and the Young Critic Award at the Clara Haskil Competition. She is also a scholarship recipient of the AG Leventis Foundation.”
The concert programme will present a rich and varied selection of works ranging from the Suite op.34 by Charles-Marie Widor and the imaginative, multi-layered character of Carnaval op.9 by Robert Schumann to the contemporary work Hypnosis by Ian Clarke.
Dynamic and soft piano melodies and the expressive possibilities of the flute through modern techniques will sound in the theatre while the repertoire concludes with the virtuosic Fantaisie Brillante sur Carmen by François Borne, based on themes from the opera Carmen, offering a brilliant and compelling finale.
