Journalist Battling for Life After Police Vehicle “Climbs” Into Media Crew
A journalist is battling for his life after a Uganda Prisons Service vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into members of the media at Ggaba Community Church Grounds in Makindye Division, Kampala.
The incident occurred during ongoing court proceedings involving suspect Christopher Okello Onyum, who is accused in the killing of four children at a daycare centre.
According to initial reports, the prison vehicle transporting the suspect lost braking control and ploughed into journalists covering the case.
One of the reporters, identified as Ronald Mulwana, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.
Authorities had not yet issued an official statement at the time of reporting, but investigations into the incident are expected.
The crash comes amid heightened public attention surrounding the case of Onyum, a 39-year-old suspect accused of killing four children aged between two and three years at a daycare centre in Kampala.
He was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.
The Uganda Police Force has since assured the public that investigations into both the daycare killings and the latest incident involving the prison vehicle are ongoing.
The developments have sparked concern among media practitioners and the public, with calls for improved safety measures during high-profile court proceedings.
