GRAWE Cyprus holds Nicosia tree-planting event as part of GReen CYties scheme

A significant environmental initiative with a tangible impact on the city has been carried out by GRAWE Cyprus, which organised a voluntary tree-planting activity recently as part of the GReen CYties programme, actively supporting efforts towards a greener and more sustainable Nicosia.

The initiative took place at Alsos Park of the Fallen and Missing Commandos, on Mavromichali Street in Engomi, with the participation of company executives and employees, volunteers and local residents. Mayor of Nicosia Charalambos Prountzos was also present and officially opened the event.

During the initiative, 80 trees — including carob, fig and mastic trees — as well as 70 shrubs, specifically oleander and holly, were planted, with the aim of enhancing urban greenery and improving the area’s microclimate. The strong turnout and enthusiasm of volunteers confirmed the importance of collective action in protecting and upgrading the urban environment.

The initiative forms part of GRAWE Cyprus’ Corporate Social Responsibility strategy which, through the GReen CYties programme, seeks to contribute to the creation of more sustainable and environmentally friendly cities across Cyprus.

GRAWE Cyprus Chief Executive Officer Panayiotis Panayiotou said the day marked a milestone for GRAWE Cyprus, its staff and its partners, signalling the launch of a project with a clear environmental focus.

As he explained, the initiative is aligned with the Mayor of Nicosia’s vision for a greener city and has been further developed through collaboration with the CYENS Centre of Excellence, with the aim of creating a platform for the digital mapping of the capital’s green environment. GRAWE Cyprus CEO Panayiotou also emphasised that, at a time when the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident, the company seeks not only to provide insurance solutions to its customers but also to make a meaningful contribution to a healthier environment for all.

For his part, Nicosia Mayor Prountzos described the Municipality’s collaboration with GRAWE Cyprus as particularly important, noting that the GReen CYties programme extends beyond tree planting to include the recording of Nicosia’s urban greenery.

He added that the reliable mapping of the city’s trees constitutes a critical tool for monitoring air quality and designing effective environmental policies. He also pointed out that air pollution represents a “silent threat” to public health and that strengthening tree planting, combined with reducing pollutant emissions, is a key prerequisite for improving quality of life in urban areas.

GRAWE Cyprus extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers who participated in the initiative, making a meaningful contribution to the creation of a greener Nicosia.

Further information about the company’s vision and its green initiatives is available on the programme’s dedicated microsite (https://greencyties.grawe.cy/), where the public can follow the progress of activities through interactive maps, access measurable results of the interventions and actively participate in the effort towards a more sustainable future.
