Russia warns U.S., Israel may use talks as cover for ground military action in Iran
Security Council of Russia has warned that the United States and Israel could use ongoing peace negotiations as a cover to prepare for a potential ground offensive against Iran.
According to TASS, the council said on Wednesday, April 15, that the Pentagon continues to increase its military presence in the region.
Russian officials also stated that Iran possesses sufficient military capabilities to respond to any potential attack, signaling confidence in Tehran’s defensive preparedness amid rising regional tensions.
The warning comes as a two-week ceasefire remains in place between U.S.-Israeli forces and Iran following weeks of intense conflict that raised fears of a broader regional war.
Despite the pause in fighting, diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with Washington indicating that negotiations aimed at ending the conflict could resume within the next two days.
Delegations from the United States and Iran held talks in Islamabad three days ago, marking a rare direct engagement between the two sides, though the discussions ended without a formal agreement.
Regional tensions remain high as military deployments continue alongside diplomatic initiatives, with global powers closely monitoring whether talks can lead to de-escalation or further confrontation.
Russia’s warning highlights deep mistrust among major powers, underscoring the fragile balance between diplomacy and military escalation as efforts to resolve the conflict continue.
