In Memoriam – Chris Kingsbury
Pontypridd RFC is deeply saddened to report the passing of one of its most loyal servants of recent decades, Chris Kingsbury MBE.
Having been a driving force behind many of the club’s activities and a stalwart supporter on the terraces, Chris passed away at home on the 13th of April following a debilitating illness, which he had faced with typical courage and fortitude.
A proud army man who had served for over twenty years with the Royal Engineers, Chris was later prominent in his charity work for the British Legion Poppy Appeal, the Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club and the Royal Engineers’ Association.
Devoting himself to Pontypridd RFC as a staunch supporter, Chris had worked with the club’s Mini & Junior Sections and had been Team Manager for the Youth squad. He served as a company director of Ponty Rugby Ltd from 2010 until 2023 then as a Committee member representing the Supporters’ Club, for whom he primarily organised long distance and overnight trips to follow the Ponty team in domestic and cross border competitions. As well as being an organiser, Chris was at heart a grass roots supporter, more often than not leading the chants that echoed out of the ‘Shed’ at Sardis Road on matchdays.
The thoughts of everyone at Pontypridd RFC are now with Chris’ widow Donna, his sons Owen and Dewi, his extended family and close friends in their time of grief, a grief which is shared by his fellow supporters, officials and volunteers at the club.
