Nancy Guthrie Update: Expert's New Theory Could Solve the Mystery
On Tuesday, April 14, the Nancy Guthrie case entered day 73 of its ongoing investigation, with still no suspect or suspects named. Nancy went missing on Feb. 1, and authorities believe she was taken against her will. It's pretty mind-boggling that the case is still without a person, or persons, of interest, but that's where it stands.
As the search for the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of the NBC "Today" show, continues, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer has offered a new theory about the person or persons who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie.
In a live stream on X, Jennifer raised the concern that the specific contents of the ransom notes received by TMZ or local media outlet haven't fully been shared with the public. Coffindaffer also said that the first two ransom notes that TMZ received, Savannah and her siblings have said they believe were "real."

She also went one step further and said that she believes a clue into the kidnapper has something to do with Savannah and her siblings' religious messages to the public on social media, noting that they often said religious things. She thinks that was on purpose and believes that language was used in the ransom notes, so their statements were a way of trying to communicate to the kidnapper.
"I've always thought the reason there was so much religious connotation and reference in all of these messages from Savannah to the ransom note writers... I've always thought it was from the lens of Savannah," Jennifer said in her video live stream. "But you know what? No. That isn't how they would think. That isn't how you reach somebody. It's not what you think, you're just the respondent."
Coffindaffer added, "You're just the person that is talking, so you need to relate to what the the person wrote, what the note writer wrote. It occurs to me... 'was there religious writings in the notes?'"
So, Coffindaffer thinks the random notes may have religious imagery and even Bible verses. She also believes Savannah used certain religious words in her video messages to try to talk to the kidnapper directly. If Savannah and her family can connect with the abductor this way, it could be a way to solve the case.
"I just am really wondering if this individual sees themself in a god-like way, playing out God," Jennifer said. "They have control over a life, over Nancy's life. Not only Nancy's life, but control over Savannah and Cameron and Annie's life."
The idea of Savannah and her siblings mirroring the words in the random note is a fascinating one. It makes sense that talking to the kidnapper in their language may beg for a response.
Now, Savannah is back on the "Today" show following two months off due to her mother's disappearance. Even as Savannah is back on the show, authorities continue to search for Nancy Guthrie with few answers.
