Government sets minimum farm gate prices for 2025/26 crops

Lilongwe, April 14, Mana: Government has released minimum farm gate prices for strategic crops for the 2025/26 agricultural season, with maize pegged at K900 per kilogramme.
In a press release, Secretary for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Erica Maganga said the prices take immediate effect and are binding on all buyers, including agro-dealers and processors.
The Ministry has set soya beans at K1,700 per kilogramme, groundnuts at K3,500 for shelled and K2,000 for unshelled, while rice (paddy), pigeon peas and sunflower have each been pegged at K1,500 per kilogramme.
Beans have been set at K3,400 for pure beans, K2,500 for mixed beans and K3,000 for white haricot beans. Paprika and chillies have been pegged at K3,800 and K7,000 per kilogramme respectively.
Maganga said all stakeholders dealing in agricultural commodities are expected to comply with the minimum prices.
“All agro-dealers, agro-processors and others who deal with commodities are requested to buy the stated crop commodities at prices not less than those stipulated,” she said.
