‘Miss America now knows what a woman is’: Pageant officials finally give in to science, say men not allowed
Miss America pageant officials have agreed to require participants in their competitions to be a “Miss,” not a “Mr.,” giving in to science and the threat that they could be violating a state deceptive advertising law.
According to Liberty Counsel, which has been carrying the fight on behalf of Kayleigh Bush, who was Miss North Florida 2025 but then deprived of her scholarship for refusing to agree to compete against men, the Miss America Organization has told Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier that the pageant has “altered” its contract language to clarify what is a woman.
Previously that definition had included biological males.
The notification was in response to a letter Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sent to the Miss America Pageant cautioning it may be violating the state’s deceptive advertising law for promoting a female-only competition but then “surreptitiously” allowing gender-confused males to compete.
“We are pleased that Miss America has finally come to its senses and revised its contract to remove the ridiculous statement that a boy can be a girl. A boy cannot be a girl. Miss America now knows what a woman is—a common sense understanding that Kayleigh Bush knew instinctually. Miss America should now reinstate the benefits of Bush’s crown, including the scholarship that she rightfully deserves,” explained Mat Staver, the chief of Liberty Counsel.
After Bush was her title in the fall of 2024, the Miss Florida program did not allow her to enjoy any of the benefits that came with her crown after she refused to sign a Miss America contract that falsely defined “female” to include gender-confused males, the legal team explained.
Bush objected to the false definition as contrary to her religious beliefs and Florida law.

Liberty Counsel has contacted the Miss America Organization several times, however, its officials had until now refused to budget.
In its response to Uthmeier, the law office for the Miss America Organization now defined “biological woman” as a person having “two x chromosomes.”
Originally, the group claimed the competition was open to someone “who has fully completed sex reassignment surgery…”
Now, the provision is that participants can be a naturally born female, which means someone bor female or born an intersex female individual (defined as one born with two x chromosomes…)”
WorldNetDaily had reported when Uthmeier issued his warning about the pageant’s anti-science agenda.
Its action, of course, fell into alignment with the anti-science transgender ideology that is so pervasive these days, after Joe Biden spent four years in the White House promoting those beliefs as a top priority.
Uthmeier had noted that nothing in Miss America’s public-facing representations defined “girls,” “women,” or “female” as anything other than biological females, nor was there any indication that a “subset of males” would be allowed to compete until the private contract was presented, Liberty Counsel explained.
He warned the “bait-and-switch” scheme may, in fact, be in violation of the state’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
He gave the pageant until May 1 to correct its statements.
