Ste Gerrard, Gerrard He’ll Pass The Ball 40 Yards….
Although the Kop choir tries hard to come up with songs for every player who works hard and runs themselves into the ground for the club, there are only certain ones that stand the test of time. That is down to the longevity of the player in question, with Steven Gerrard being a case in point. The midfielder was not only the best player in the Liverpool team during the 2000s, he is also the main reason we won anything at all for a long period.
Opposition supporters like to sing this song with changed lyrics, for some reason, but that only encourages the Kop to sing the right words louder and more ferociously.
Supporting one of the Best Captains Ever
It takes a really special player to be considered one of the best that the club has ever seen, which becomes doubly the case when you’re talking about the captain.
With names like Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes and Alan Hansen on the list, it is easy to see why the role of captain at Anfield is one that is held in high regard.
Steven Gerrard is as worthy of being considered on the list of the best we’ve had as any of them, dragging the Reds to victory when it seemed all but impossible that we could win anything.
From the Champions League final in 2005 to the following year’s FA Cup, Gerrard helped us win plenty.
The song that supporters sing for him is about him being able to take on the challenge of all comers. It is one that does feature a swear word, which is worth bearing in mind if you’re trying to teach young ones the songs from the club’s past. It’s a number that is really easy to belt out, however, so it’s not surprising that little Reds like to sing along with their parents and guardians when the Kop has decided to bring it out. He might well have made some questionable choices during his managerial career, but that takes nothing away from what an exceptional player he was, with the following being what gets sung on his behalf:
Ste Gerrard, Gerrard
He’ll pass the ball 40 yards,
He’s big and he’s f**king hard:
Ste Gerrard, Gerrard!
