Prince George, Princess Charlotte & Prince Louis Reportedly Have a Drastically Different Rule at Home vs. In Public
If you’ve seen how poised and perfect Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, look during public outings, then you may be surprised to hear that they aren’t like that at home. Apparently, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three kids have a very different playtime rule behind closed doors — and it makes so much sense.
When the kids aren’t in school, they are reportedly required to spend time outside getting messy and dirty. (Yes, really!) “There will be lots and lots of outdoor play … Lots of bike rides, playing with their dogs, potentially some gardening,” Louise Heren, Nanny in a Book author, told Hello! She added, “Yes, you are getting mucky with your hands in the soil. If it is tipping it down, they will still go out.”
It’s hard to imagine the kids running around in the rain and getting mud under their fingernails at first, but over the years, we’ve seen evidence of how comfortable they are in the fresh air, like during Prince George’s 12th birthday video.
Middleton opened up about how much they still love playing backyard rugby as a family back in January. And in November 2025, Prince William shared how important nature is for the family. “As a father, I think constantly about the world my children will inherit. I want them to grow up surrounded by nature, opportunity and a sense of hope about the future,” he said at the Earthshot Awards Ceremony.
Prince William has also spoken a bit about how different his kids act at home. At the National Federation of the Women’s Institute in September 2025, Prince William said, “Behind closed doors it’s a completely different ball game” about how differently Prince George acts at home compared to in the public eye. Good for them for encouraging their kids to be kids!
